ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - The magic of classical ballet will take centre stage this weekend when Elvinia's Dance Academy presents Coppélia at the George Arts Theatre this coming Friday and Saturday, 18 and 19 September.
Based on a story by ETA Hoffmann, Coppélia is one of ballet's most charming and playful classics. The story centres around Franz, a young man who becomes fascinated by a mysterious girl, Coppélia, who sits reading on a balcony.
But there is more to her than meets the eye - she is actually a life-sized mechanical doll created by the eccentric inventor Dr Coppélius.
When Franz's fiancée, Swanilda, discovers the truth, a series of comic misunderstandings, mischief and magical moments unfolds. The ballet is celebrated for its lively dancing, humour and colourful characters, making it an entertaining production for audiences of all ages.
The young dancers of Elvinia's Dance Academy will bring this much-loved story to life.
There are three opportunities to catch the production: Friday 18 September at 18:30, and Saturday 19 September at 15:00 and 18:30.
Tickets cost R160 per person. For those wanting to make an evening of it, a dinner show option is available for R380 per person, including front block seating and dinner in partnership with Hussar Grill.
