GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - The beautiful voices of some of the country's finest school choirs filled the air at the annual National School Choir Festival, held at the George Civic Centre last weekend.
The event saw 18 choirs from across South Africa come together, their pure choral harmonies echoing through the venue.
This prestigious festival, now in its ninth year, is a collaborative effort between Nico Bezuidenhout of Southern Cape Sports Tours and Jan-Erik Swart of the Southern Cape Music Academy.
The festival offers school choirs the opportunity to showcase their talents in a competitive tour, performing in front of a distinguished panel of judges and a public audience.
The event also significantly boosts cultural tourism in the area, with numerous hotels and guesthouses fully booked to accommodate participants and spectators.
Local choirs joined those from as far afield as Krugersdorp, Welkom, Pretoria, and Stellenbosch for a spectacular concert on Women's Day.

In the end, Garsfontein Primary School secured third place, with Claredon Girls High taking second. Monument High School from Krugersdorp was crowned the overall winner.
The organisers sincerely thank George Municipality and UXI for their generous sponsorship, which helped make this grand festival possible.
