GEORGE NEWS - Can you sing or dance, or do you have a special talent in the performing arts? If so, you are invited to audition for a brand-new local competition on Saturday 25 February.
Harmony Spiritual and Emotional Healing Centre is launching this exciting new initiative for all talented residents in the Eden area in the form of a talent competition called George Has Got Talent!
Lee Venter, the project coordinator and marketing manager of Harmony, said the organisation has become involved over the past year in various local community uplifting projects and in the process they became acutely aware that a platform should be created where talented local musicians and artists can showcase their talents to the local public.
"People from all age groups are welcome to take part in this exciting competition and young people in particular are encouraged to make use of this opportunity," Venter said.
"Because our young people are so close to our hearts, we are eager to create an appropriate foundation through which our youth could give expression to their identity by means of singing and dancing. In this manner, the focus will also shift from a mentality of expecting help from others to that of a giving mentality, through which everyone can make a positive contribution to the community by means of his or her talents. Apart from exposing local talent, this project could also bring joy and happiness to many people in these times where it is needed so much. We are extremely excited about this new project."
Dr Lukas du Preez, who is also associated with Harmony in various outreach projects, added that through coordinating and presenting musical entertainment for elderly residents at local care facilities, it became abundantly clear that there is a lot of talent waiting to be explored. "George Has Got Talent! is the ideal mechanism to do this," he said.
