GARDEN ROUTE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Local actress Maja Snyman (14) has been selected for the World Monologue Games regional finals.

Maja, from Glentana, said: "I'm so excited that I get to compete for my country, doing what I love."

The World Monologue Games was set up last year by Australian Pete Malicki, who wanted a lockdown-friendly platform for performers.

Maja submitted a video of her doing a monologue, Living in a car. It is an extract from the British show, Shameless. This emotional piece provides a window into the lives of the children who suffer when adults fail.

The regional finals will be streamed live from 27 August to October. The whole of Africa is one of the "regions" in the regional finals.

The winners of the six different monologue categories in the games will receive cash prizes.
