GEORGE NEWS - Interested residents are invited to a Heritage Day programme at the Market Community Theatre on Market Street from 15:00 to 19:00 on 24 September.
The event is hosted by a group of civil society platforms, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign Southern Cape, Reform the United Nations Now (Runn) and Africa Unite, an NGO headquartered in Cape Town.
The programme aims to reflect on national heritage as instilled by the values of President Nelson Mandela.
It will explore how shifting the focus from ethnic heritage to a shared national heritage can strengthen social cohesion and promote humanitarian ideals.
As part of the event, attendees will have exclusive access to screen the award-winning film A New Country by Sifiso Khanyile, which is not available on the internet.
There is no entry fee, but the organisers hope to support the theatre by contributing to the value creation and sustainability of the facility and the local arts community.
