GEORGE WATER SPORT NEWS - George Lakes Yacht Club (GLYC) staged its annual inter-club regatta on Sunday and was proud to be crowned the winner of the Inter Club Trophy (Slow Fleet). Knysna Yacht Club (KYC) was presented with the Inter Club Trophy (Fast Fleet).
The regatta was proudly sponsored by Lew Geffen Sotheby's International Realty, Raubenheimers Attorneys and ooba Home Loans.
Four races were completed in a fresh south-easter, which made for challenging conditions for the sailors.
The Fast Fleet was headed by the Finns, with the Fireballs of David Laing / Anthony Alant and Conrad Holm / Ferdinand Holm struggling to stay with them. It was only in the lighter wind of the first race that the two Fireballs could finish in front.
The top two Finns were sailed by Greg Davis and David Shilton, with Shilton finishing ahead of Davis in three of the races.
Races for the Slow Fleet were headed by the Tera Pros of KYC's Nyasha Tembo and GLYC's Tristan Boshoff, with Tembo taking line honours in three of the races.
In the Catamaran category, Hans Delport won the first race, but Clive and Mireille Layland won the other two that they sailed.
The Laser 4.7s of Kyle Koeries and Ashley Layland came out on top in the first race. Greg Davis won the second race ahead of David Shilton.
The Sonnet of Dudley Isaac and Tyrin Williams (KYC) won races three and four ahead of Shilton. Overall for the regatta in this fleet, the winner was the Sonnet team of Isaac and Williams.
In the Slow Fleet, class ratings put the Optimists ahead of the Teras with Ayden Gething in first place, Jean-Paul Buys second and Luchen America third.
