GEORGE RUGBY NEWS - The 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan is reaching fever pitch. This weekend saw host nation Japan beating Ireland in one of the toughest clashes of their opening round games. Japan won the match with seven points putting the score after the final whistle at 19 – 12 for Japan.
Ireland was ranked third in the world rankings before the game. Japan has moved to the top of Pool A with 9 points and is almost certain of having a spot in the quarter finals.
The Bokke played their second match against our neighbours Namibia on Saturday. South Africa won the game 57-3 in the City of Toyota Stadium.The Bokke unfortunately lost their opening match against arch rivals the All Blacks. This was one of the most anticipated matches of the opening round of the Rugby World Cup.
The All Blacks won the game with a ten point difference, beating the Bokkke 23 – 13 at the Yokohama International Stadium. The Bokke will face Italy this Friday the 4th of October before finally playing against Canada in the last of their pool matches.
Pool C sees England taking the lead with 10 points. England who is coached by Eddie Jones had an easy opening match against Tonga. England who is one of the stronger teams in Pool C won the game 35 -3. England won their second match against USA with 45 points to seven.
England is playing Argentina this Saturday. Les Bleus (The Blues) who ended fourth in the Six Nations managed to walk away with a win over Argentina last Saturday. France won the match with two points with the final score 23 – 21.
Argentina played Tonga on Saturday walking away with a win. Argentina will be hoping that France loses one f their games to progress to the quarter finals.
Pool D consists of Australia, Wales, Fiji, Georgia and Uruguay. Australia and Wales are the two teams who look set to advance to the quarter finals. The top two teams of Pool D squared off yesterday for a battle between the two strongest teams in Pool D.
It was a close game that ultimately saw Wales winning the game with 29 to 25 points. Wales who won this year’s Six Nations is now at the top of group D with nine points.
