GEORGE NEWS - Some runners took to the rugged slopes of the Outeniqua Mountains on 23 August for the Legbreaker Trail Run, an event organised by the Royal Swimming Academy in partnership with Outeniqua Harriers, and sponsored by Coastal Air Rifles.
The trail run was launched to raise support for the academy’s winter programme, which keeps young swimmers active outside the summer season.
The Outeniqua Harriers, well known in the local running scene, joined forces with the academy to bring the event to life.

Participants could choose between a challenging 15km trail run and a 5km fun run. The 15km course pushed athletes to their limits with steep climbs and technical descents, but rewarded them with sweeping mountain views and forest paths usually closed to the public.
The 5km route offered an easier option, open to all fitness levels, while still giving runners a chance to enjoy the natural beauty of the Outeniquas.
The event brought together the swimming and running communities, combining sport, endurance and community spirit in a single initiative. - Compiled by Michelle Pienaar
