GEORGE NEWS - Herold Primary School is having a fundraiser to help keep their little school's doors stay open.

As part of their ongoing efforts to raise funds, the school will be hosting the very first Montagu Pass Run.

The event consists of a 5km colour run and a 10km run.

The initial 21km run unfortunately had to be cancelled due to the condition of the pass.

"The road further down is just too dangerous for runners or recovery vehicles, but the 5km and 10km are still stunning," said event organiser Janine Botes.

The event will take place on Saturday 6 July and entries are now open.

Herold Primary is a small multicultural, dual-medium farm school with learners from Ezeljacht, Herold, Waboomskraal, Geelhoutboom and George. The aim of the run is to raise funds for a new school bus.

"We need to grow our numbers. There are many children who want to come to Herold Primary, but we have to turn everyone away because we don't have enough transport," said the school's acting headmaster, Bianca Smith. The school's intake for this year is 52 learners from Grade RR to Grade 7.

Currently learners are transported to and from school every day by dedicated teachers.
