GEORGE SAILING NEWS - George Lakes Yacht Club annual inter-club regatta at Island Lake attracted 33 boats last Sunday. They were divided into two fleets, for faster and slower boats. Three races could be completed on Saturday and two on Sunday.
In the slow boat fleet the Tera Pro of Jaybes October (Mossel Bay) was consistently first to finish. However, it was the leading Optimist, sailed by Tristan Boshoff (George), that fared best on handicap against class ratings to win overall – his first regatta win. Boshoff secured two race wins and a second and third place.
In the fast boat fleet, the Fireball of Georgou Divaris and Ferdinand Holm was consistently first over the finish line in the races, but was unable to extend enough ahead of the Lasers to do too well on corrected times.
It was the Laser of John Marc Olivier, who was the leader ahead of the other Lasers, that was the overall winner in each race. Malcolm Osborne (Laser) secured second place.
Mossel Bay was the overall winner in the slow boat fleet with George Lakes second. In the fast boat fleet George Lakes entrants filled most of the top places to ensure that their club was the winner in this category.
The regatta was made possible thanks to the generous support of sponsors Sothebys International Realty George and Raubenheimers Attorneys.
