GEORGE NEWS - The George Bowling Club will be hosting the first Elma Davis Bowls Tournament in memory of the bowls legend on Saturday and Sunday 16 and 17 April.
A total of 36 teams from all over the country, including many current and past national, provincial and district players, will compete for the inaugural Elma Davis Trophy, ensuring a high standard of bowls over Easter. Play starts at 09:00.
This tournament will be held in memory of the late Protea bowls player, Elma Davis who died on 14 April 2019 aged 51 during an apparent murder suicide perpetrated by her husband, Trevor, at their home in Mossel Bay.
Her death sent shock waves through the international bowling community as Davis was one of the best bowlers South Africa had ever produced. She amassed no less than 26 international and national medals - 10 gold , eight silver and eight bronze - including medals earned at the world championships in New Zealand and the Commonwealth Games in Australia during her career that spanned from 2011 to 2019.
Davis was a true professional, extremely talented, fiercely determined and highly competitive.
