CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers will take a lot of confidence from the recent Cricket South Africa T20 knock-out competition as they enter their red-ball campaign for the 2024/25 season.
The Badgers were the losing finalists in the T20 competition. They will travel to East London where they will take on the Eastern Cape Iianyathi at Buffalo Park with the match starting on Thursday 31 October.
The Badgers will be keen to put their hands on silverware and the head coach, Gurshwin Rabie, will be full of confidence that the line-up can produce the desired results.
Injuries to Lifa Nthanzi and Ruan Terblanche have ruled them out of contention while Pheko Moletsane is unavailable due to personal reasons.
Hlompho Modomokoane and Khwezi Gumede are both back from injuries. George van Heerden (with the bat), Thomas Kaber (with the ball) and all-rounder Kyle Jacobs were the Badgers' most outstanding players in the T20 campaign, and they will again be key players in the four-day competition.
The Badgers squad for the weekend are: Yaseen Valli (captain), Luke Beaufort, Khwezi Gumede, Kyle Jacobs, Thomas Kaber, Hlompo Modimokoane, Kelly Smuts, Jarred Jardine, Tyrece Karelse, Sintu Majiza, Liyabona Malifi, George van Heerden and Keenan Vieira. For more fixtures go to www.georgeherald.com
