CRICKET NEWS - A new era dawns for New Dawn Park in Pacaltsdorp as they secure their place in the Six Gun Grill SWD Premier League for the 2025/26 season, replacing Plett Pioneers, who have finished bottom of the log and will drop to the promotion league.
Pioneers’ fate was sealed on Saturday following a 21-run defeat to Union Stars II at the Bridgton Sports Grounds in Oudtshoorn.
The hosts, batting first, set a target of 196/6, with contributions from Ineal Arries (51*), Gershwill Goliath (38) and Wildre Hano Wessels (31).
In response, Pioneers managed 175 before being bowled out in the 39th over, despite a fighting 56 from Sinovuyo Dali.
Rushaan McGregor’s impressive 4/54, along with Elridge Booysen (3/30) and James Bruiners (3/43), ensured Union Stars II walked away with the victory.
With this result, Pioneers will make way for New Dawn Park, who topped the promotion league this season. Their consistent performances throughout the campaign earned them the coveted promotion.
Meanwhile, wet conditions played spoilsport elsewhere, with both George vs Knysna Cavaliers and Pacaltsdorp United vs Sussex matches abandoned due to unplayable outfields.
