CRICKET NEWS - The one-day campaign of the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers came to a disappointing end on Sunday when they suffered a two-wicket defeat against the Eastern Cape Iinyathi at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn.
The Badgers, who batted first, posted a competitive 257/5, with George van Heerden (72*) and Luke Beaufort (75) the batting heroes.
The Badgers bowlers were disappointed as the Iinyathi reached the winning target in the 40th over for a bonus-points victory to enable them to secure a place in the finals.
The Badgers finished fifth in the One Day Cup with three victories and four defeats.
On Wednesday, a brilliant individual all-round performance by Pheko Moletsane steered the Six Gun Grill Garden Route Badgers to a 52-run bonus-point victory against the Eastern Storm.
The Badgers, playing at home, won the toss and thanks to a record 194-run partnership between Moletsane (100 from 130 balls; 1x6, 11x4) and Kyle Jacobs 82 (121 balls; 1x6, 3x4) posted 233/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Unfortunately, none of the other batsmen took advantage of the platform that was set.
The run chase of the Storm was well on target with their score at 141/2 in the 28th over, but Moletsane and his spin-partner, Thomas Kaber, turned the match around. Kaber bagged 4/40 (in 10 overs) and Moletsane (3/29 in 8 overs) as the Storm was dismissed for 181 in the 39th over.
