GEORGE NEWS - Tyholora Primary School hosted its first-ever “Boys to Men” learning session for boys in Grades 4 to 7 on Friday 29 August.
The event brought together learners, their fathers, teachers, and community leaders in a day of mentorship and encouragement.
Speakers included Sibongile Dipa from the Department of Social Development and Apostle Sithonga Dlomo, who delivered motivational talks aimed at guiding boys toward positive choices and strong values.
Apostle Dlomo shared the powerful biblical story of David and Goliath, drawing lessons of obedience, respect, and courage.
“David was just a young boy who showed obedience. He listened to his father, respected authority, and followed instructions. His small acts of obedience opened the door for God to use him mightily,” he told the learners.
He encouraged the boys to honour their parents, teachers, and elders, reminding them that true greatness often begins with humility. Challenges such as smoking, bullying, and disrespecting others were compared to modern-day “Goliaths” - obstacles that can be defeated with courage and discipline.

The message of the day was captured in the isiXhosa proverb, “inkunzi isematholeni” (the bull is among the calves), emphasising that tomorrow’s leaders are found among today’s young learners.
The school expressed pride in launching this initiative, which aims to build character, responsibility, and leadership among boys as they grow into men who will shape the future.
