NATIONAL NEWS - A pit bull has mauled an 8-year-old boy to death at his home in Vista Park in Bloemfontein yesterday.
According to police spokesperson Thabo Covane, it is alleged that the dog escaped its enclosure and jumped over the fence into the neighbour’s premises at about 14:02 yesterday afternoon.
“It then attacked the child who was playing alone; biting him severely on the neck and chest,” he says.
He further reported that the police and paramedics were summoned to the scene and the boy was declared dead on the scene.
Call for a ban on pit bulls
A petition to ban power breeds like pit bulls as domestic pet was started after a 10-year-old boy was mauled to death by his family’s pit bulls in September.
