NATIONAL NEWS - The Department of Home Affairs has extended operating hours at its offices nationwide to ensure eligible voters have access to the identity documents needed to vote in the Local Government Elections on Wednesday 4 November.
From today, Monday 2 November, until Wednesday 4 November all Home Affairs front offices will be open from 08:00 to 18:00 to allow citizens to collect completed identity documents, apply for identity documents or obtain Temporary Identity Certificates (TICs), where applicable.
On election day, Wednesday 4 November, offices will remain open until 21:00, operating from 07:00 to coincide with the Electoral Commission of South Africa's (IEC) election-day operating hours.
The department has urged South Africans who have applied for identity documents to collect them in time to exercise their right to vote.
Stakeholder forums, community organisations and community leaders have also been encouraged to work with local communities to ensure eligible voters collect their identity documents or obtain the necessary temporary documentation before election day.
