NATIONAL NEWS - Former Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says there’s a high risk of small scale corruption in the country developing into high scale corruption and impunity.
During an Eyewitness News exclusive, Gordhan emphasised how the Gupta leaks have confirmed suspicions, perceptions or knowledge of corrupt activities.
Gordhan says the Gupta leaks have not only confirmed corruption within the public and private sectors but also given South Africans a sense of scale.
“So when the CFO, who's now suspended at Eskom, says I gave a guarantee of one and a half or whatever billion rands, and says it so lightly and here you have a board which says I didn’t know about it, then what kind of governance are we actually talking about?”
Gordhan says, unfortunately, the institutions who should be holding those accountable for corrupt activities are not doing their work.
