GEORGE NEWS - A woman managed to escape and call for help after a man allegedly threatened her with a knife and locked her in a room during a robbery at her home in Lake Road, Wilderness, on 8 October.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie said the suspect took cellphones and other electronic items.

Using a key she had, the woman escaped through the back door and contacted the Wilderness Defence Force and police for assistance.

The suspect reportedly fled on foot when security personnel arrived. Police arrived on the scene and joined the search.

A red, grey and black jacket believed to have been worn by the suspect was later found in bushes near the house. He remains at large.

Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is urged to contact police. Members of the public should not approach or confront the suspect.

The incident follows concerns raised at a Wilderness Police Forum meeting on 14 September about burglaries at occupied homes.
