According to the publication, the Corsa GSI will allegedly have around 110 kW at its disposal and slot in below the 152 kW VXR (OPC) instead of replacing it. The GSI's announcement also dispels a previous report by Autodealer that such a model would never be produced, in light of a rendering released by Brazilian automotive artist Kleber Silva of what such as model could look like.
No further details, apart from the fact that the Corsa GSI will be front-wheel drive instead of four-wheel drive like the Insignia, has been released. Although no word on whether an Opel equivalent would be produced for markets outside the UK, including South Africa, all likelihood is that such as model will eventually become a reality.
Electric Corsa coming in 2020
Meanwhile, a further report from Auto Express has claimed that the next generation Corsa, due for release next year, will spawn an full-electric version by 2020.
Unlike the current model which still makes use of the General Motors D2XX platform, the new Corsa will transfer to PSA's CMP platform underpinning the Citroen C3 and incoming Peugeot 208, and in everyday versions, come powered by a range of PSA sourced petrol and possibly turbodiesel engines.
