According to response.jp, the alleged newcomer will complete the band of “three brothers” mentioned by Head Engineer and Gazoo Racing boss, Tetsuya Tada, at the Geneva Motor Show last year, with a reported due date of 2020 or 2021.
While Toyota has so far declined to confirm its supposed latest joint-venture with the automobile division of Fuji Heavy Industries, the online publication claims that the Subaru version will take styling cues from the number of Viziv concepts shown over the last few months, and that both will feature a mid-engine layout.
Despite a report in April claiming that both of the marque’s current sports cars, the GT86 and BRZ would receive a bigger 2.4-litre engine at debut in 2021, Response claims that the mid-engine equivalent will use the 1.6-litre turbocharged flat-four from the Japanese spec Levorg, albeit teamed with an electric motor for a total system output of 221kW.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming months.
