While nothing much has changed from previous sightings in that the A45 is still decked out in heavy disguise around the front, down the side and with only minimal masking around the rear diffuser and somewhat oddly, on the three-pointed star logo, a new report has surfaced alleging that it might be called A50 instead of A45.
With a suggested output of 298kW from the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and a tweaked 4Matic all-wheel drive system, the A45 will allegedly complete the 0-100km/h sprint in around four seconds and drop the current seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox for Benz’s nine-speed unit.
Based on a prior report, the proposed A50 moniker could very well be reserved for the rumoured hybrid version of the A45, which will combine the 2.0-litre mill with an electric motor under Mercedes-Benz’s EQ Boost banner similar to the 53-line of models. At present though, this remains to be confirmed.
Also still be the established is whether the A45/A50’s junior sibling, the A35, will would be first small model to come with the mild-hybrid layout, which will see it produce a claimed 224kW. Whereas the A35 is expected to debut either before or after the Paris Motor Show in October, the A45/50 will only become available next year.
