As previously mentioned, the UX rides on the same TNGA platform as the Toyota CH-R and Prius, dubbed Global Architecture-Luxury (GA-C) by Lexus, with dimensions of 4 495 mm in overall length, a wheelbase of 2 640 mm, height of 1 520 mm and width of 1 840 mm.
Incorporating Lexus’ latest spindle grille design language with a choice of 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels, the UX’s interior mirrors those of the NX and RX in layout and design, but rates as the first Lexus model to offer a trim finish inspired by Japanese grain paper, known as washi.
In addition to the flagship F Sport that will feature a number of bespoke aesthetic enhancements, as well as on the inside, safety in the UX includes Lexus’ Safety System+ made up of Pre-Collision System, Lane Tracing Assist, Automatic High Beam Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Radar detection and Road Sign Assist.
Included on the F Sport is Active Sound Control on downshifts and Sonic Interaction Design that adjust the engine’s sound when in Sport S+ mode.
Up front, the UX, as per previous trademark reports, will offer a choice of two engines; a brand new 2.0-litre normally aspirated petrol in the UX200, and the same mill mated to an electric motor in the UX250h.
Known as Dynamic Force, the unit develops 131 kW and 206 Nm in the UX200 with the option of front or e-Four all-wheel drive, and a total system out of 129 kW in the all-wheel drive only UX250h. A new Direct-Shift CVT is standard on the UX200 with the UX250h getting an electronic version of the ‘box as sole option.
Sales of the UX are reportedly due to commence in December, so expect it to arrive on local shores early next year.
