First of these will be the addition of a new 1.3T engine, which will appear in the Embrand EC7 before the end of the year.
This new four-cylinder 1 299cc engine is expected to be good for about 100kW and 190Nm of torque. It is just one of several small turbocharged engines currently being developed by Geely. No dates for the local launch of this engine in the EC7 have been confirmed, since this particular model is not yet available in right-hand-drive configuration.
A range of four smaller, greener turbocharged engines are also in the works in conjunction with Volvo, ranging in size from 1.0- to 1.8 litres. These engines will also feature what Geely calls “fuel-stratified injection” - or FSI - technology.
The Chinese manufacturer is also developing six-speed manual and automatic transmissions together with Australian transmission manufacturer DSI, which Geely also bought out. The autobox is expected to make its appearance in the EC7.
Geely International is expected to show a number of new models and concepts at the Shanghai Motor Show, which will include SUVs, a new MPV, sports car as well as the latest in efficient engine technology.
