While still covered in large amounts of masking and cladding, the Blazer does provide subtle hints of what lies underneath in the form of uncovered headlights hiding rounded LEDs, and model unique multi-spoke alloy wheels.
In stark contrast to previous generations though, the newcomer, as evident by the images taken by motor1.com, will adopt a crossover profile and do without a low range gearbox, with the C1XX platform used by the GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, Cadillac XT5 and Buick Enclave expected to underpin the Blazer.
The use of C1XX also throws up an extensive selection of engine for the Blazer, namely a 2.0-litre turbocharged four used in XT5 and Traverse, a normally aspirated 2.5 that powers the Acadia and a 3.6-litre V6 offered as an option on all models and standard on the Enclave. Transmission choice will consist of a six, eight or nine-speed automatic depending on the engine, while all-wheel drive will be offered on higher spec versions.
Slated to make its unveiling at the Los Angeles International Auto Show in November, the Blazer is highly unlikely to return to South Africa after a short availability spell in the early 2000s, following Chevrolet parent company, General Motors’, withdrawal from the local market last year.
