Lightly toned down from the concept shown at the same event last year, the production Z4, co-developed with the new Toyota Supra, not only incorporates styling touches from the new 8-series in the form of the sweptback LED headlights, but also a rear facia strongly influenced by the Z8.
While BMW didn’t go into exact details of the interior, the accompanying images shows the same overall design as the 8-series, with an all-digital instrument cluster, the 10.25-inch iDrive infotainment display and the same gear lever for the eight-speed Steptronic gearbox.
The automaker has however divulged details regarding spec-level of the First Edition, which consists of the Frozen Orange Metallic paint finish, bi-colour, double-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels, an anthracite finished electric soft-top, Shadow Line high gloss exterior detailing, black mirror caps, a Harman Kardon surround system, ambient lighting, Vernasca black leather trim, Heads-Up Display and Matrix adaptive LED headlights.
Equipped with the otherwise optional M Sport differential, brakes and sport suspension, power for the First Edition, as indicated by previous leaks, comes from a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six developing 250kW, which will allow it to reach 100km/h from standstill in 4.4 seconds.
Set to be exhibited at the Paris Motor Show in October, BMW has revealed that complete details would be announced on September 19th with sales commencing next year. In addition, BMW South Africa has confirmed that the Z4 will make its local debut in the first quarter of 2019.
