According to a post by bimmerpost.com, an obtained bulletin addressed to the United States BMW client advisers, states that the premiere will take place on the evening of Friday, June 15th, while also coinciding with the 2018 M Power Awards.
Teased last month despite the production model already having leaked earlier this year, the 8-series, which serves as a replacement for the 6-series, will be offered in both coupe and cabriolet body styles and rival the Mercedes-Benz S-class while sharing the same CLAR platform as the 5-and 7-series.
According to Autocar, the 8-series’ close ties with the latter model will stretch further and likely include the same range of six-and eight-cylinder petrol engines, as well as a 3.0-litre straight-six turbodiesel, with some models also expected to feature xDrive all-wheel drive.
A hybrid model is also being mulled as well as a luxury variant powered by the 760Li’s 6.6-litre bi-turbo V12, while the much-vaunted M8, shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year in race-spec GTE guise, will likely come powered by the same 441 kW 4.4-litre bi-turbo V8 as the M5.
