GEORGE NEWS - George Municipality's speaker, Sean Snyman, and other cancer survivors brought colour and energy to the red carpet in their hippie-themed outfits while being escorted by some handsome NSRI lifesavers during the Wings of Hope George's fourth annual fundraiser fashion show on Saturday 9 May.
The event celebrated cancer survivors, patients currently undergoing treatment, and the everyday heroes who support them.

This year's show carried the theme 'Unsung Heroes'. Members of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) accompanied the models down the runway in a tribute to people who quietly dedicate themselves to helping others.
Wings of Hope George's head, Ingrid Watkins, said the event was designed to honour those individuals who continue showing courage and compassion despite difficult circumstances. "Cancer patients and lifesavers are people who just get on with it without expecting fanfare or attention," she said.
The fundraiser was made possible through strong community support. Bridal Inn at Shamrock Place, owned by Caren Ogilvie, donated the women's formal wear, while Just a Wish in Knysna Road and Amigo's in York Street provided clothing free of charge. The Moth Hall was also sponsored as the venue for the evening.
Watkins explained that Wings of Hope offers support to anyone affected by cancer, including patients, family members and friends. The organisation provides home and hospital visits at both private and state oncology units, educational talks focused on early detection, online awareness sessions, and support group gatherings in George every two months. National and Garden Route WhatsApp support groups are also available.
"We really celebrate life at our shows and have lots of fun," said Watkins. "There is no charge for any of our support services. Everything is funded by Wings of Hope and generous donors, except for the fashion show fundraiser."
