UNIONDALE NEWS - The police in Uniondale arrested a 51-year-old suspect and seized drugs with an estimated street value of R80 000 yesterday, Wednesday 26 January.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, an integrated team consisting of members of the Uniondale Vispol, the sector commander and crime prevention unit, acted on a tip-off about illegal activities at a residence in Haarlem.
While searching the premises, 202 full, one half and four quarter Mandrax tablets and 20g of tik were found.
The suspect was arrested and detained at the Uniondale police holding cells. He will make his first court appearance in the Uniondale Magistrate’s Court once charged with either dealing in drugs or the possession of illicit drugs.
“Although small in quantity, the find is regarded as significant for such a small rural town with a huge rate of unemployment and social challenges such as gender-based violence,” said Western Cape Commissioner Lt-Gen Thembisile Patekile.
He commended the members involved in bringing the suspect to book and encourage them to sustain the pressure on illicit drug trade in the rural sector to help safeguard communities.
