GEORGE NEWS - A 46-year-old suspect was arrested at his home in 5th Avenue, Wilderness, after drugs and high-end equipment valued at more than R600 000 was confiscated from an improvised laboratory at his home.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, officers from the Western Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation’s Narcotics section and Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team, armed with a search warrant, descended on the address on Thursday 23 November.
The team executed the search warrant which stems from a lengthy investigation following reports of suspicious activity in and around the premises.
"Upon entering the premises police discovered three rooms which were, converted into a cannabis cultivation laboratory, fully equipped with expensive equipment.
A total of 327 cannabis plants and 500g of dried dagga with an estimated street value of R432 000 were confiscated. Efforts to dismantle the laboratory commenced and equipment which surpasses R200 000 in value, were seized," said Spies.
The suspect was arrested on the scene and is expected to make his first court appearance in the George Magistrate's Court on charges relating to cultivating of cannabis and dealing in drugs later today, Monday 27 November.
