GEORGE NEWS - The 4th annual Big Walk by Binah will take place on 6 December in the Garden Route Botanical Garden. The focus of this year's event is creating a safe environment for all people with disabilities.
The event coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month, which is from 3 November to 3 December.
The latter is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day. The public is encouraged to participate to show their support and acceptance of people with special needs.
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or a combination of these. The Big Walk by Binah offers an opportunity for all of us to remove these barriers and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through concrete action.
Funds raised during this campaign will again be utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training. The organisers of the campaign from the non-profit organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre, are excited about the positive response and support they receive from the Garden Route community.
Binah ("understanding") creates awareness for children with special needs in order for society to better understand and accept them. The founder members of Binah themselves deal with the challenges families with special needs children face, as they raise their autistic sons.
More than 300 people enjoyed the 2019 Big Walk by Binah and this year the organisers hope that even more families will attend the walk and share in the true sense of community while sharing their experiences with one another.
Business support
The Garden Route business sector is throwing its weight behind this awareness campaign together with national companies. Citadel Wealth Management, Talisman, Spur and Pick n Pay national will again be on board.
Many vouchers and gifts will again be up for grabs! Due to the kind support of Interface by Goji PR & Events the message of acceptance of people who are differently abled will be spread extensively. Please also show your understanding and support by participating in this fun walk for a worthy cause!
