GEORGE NEWS - Gang violence seems to be the motive behind an incident in which a prison guard at George Correctional Services was attacked and injured by an inmate on Wednesday 18 March.
Mosele Sehloho, administrative secretary for the regional commissioner of the department of correctional services (DCS), confirmed the incident and said it took place at approximately 13:40 that afternoon.
"The guard was returning an inmate to his cell after a consultation with the police. When the guard unlocked the door of the cell another inmate attacked him," she said.
It is believed that the inmate used some sort of a self-made weapon to stab the guard.
