GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - The Western Cape Minister of Transport and Public Works, Bonginkosi Madikizela, pleaded with the taxi industry in George to help him curb the second wave of the coronavirus.
Madikizela visited the George taxi rank earlier this afternoon, 14 December and spoke to representatives of the industry, mere hours before President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to address the nation on the latest developments regarding the spread of Covid-19.
Madikizela earlier also visited the taxi ranks in Plettenberg Bay and Knysna. The visit forms part of his continued drive to spread information about Covid-19, to encourage travellers to follow the golden rules of hygiene for keeping safe, and to ensure public transport operators and passengers comply with the regulations.
Madikizela said the Western Cape Government is very worried about the situation in the Garden Route and there have been a number of proposals to curb the spread. He has noticed during his visit that many people are not following the health protocols.
He believes the transport system must be allowed to operate as it is and doesn’t support the closing of any provincial border. People must be allowed to spend the festive season with their families.
He added that people who want to visit the Western Cape must also be allowed to do so.
He asked the industry to help him make this possible.
