A total of 368 people have joined up over the past week, bringing the total number of people to have joined since registration opened to 965.
Despite the heat on Saturday morning, there were 419 runners eager to participate this week - with one of the youngest participants being Manfred Dreyer (1), who sat in his dad Quinton's child carrier backpack while accompanied by his mum Karin, older brothers Jaden (3) and Timothy (5).
There was a momentary panic as one of the oldest participants Barry Large (85) had not returned after about 1 hour and 20 minutes had elapsed from the start of the race at 08:00.
He arrived 10min later with Paul Manson as his escort on a bicycle after which the George parkrun Event Director Chantell Liddell quickly asked ER24, who had been notified of his non-appearance by then, to stand down.
Large, who has a Comrades and several Two Oceans under his belt said he felt OK. He does have a heart condition, but felt that if he were to collapse it would be OK it would be " ... a good way to go".
Another not-so-young man, Robyn Clarke, the GRBG trustee chairman showed his sportiness on Saturday by finishing in good time and in good spirits.
Liddell said although she and her co-organiser were all on a learning curve, they were gratified at the growing popularity of parkun in George.
George parkrun volunteers heaved a sign with relief as everything went off OK in the second week of existence. From left: Elaine Fouche, Chantelle Liddell (events director), Karin Voster (timekeeper), Louise Kitson and Paul Kitson (funnel manager).
