GEORGE NEWS - Tertuis Simmers, MPP and DA Constituency Head: George & Eden District, who took up his seat in the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in June, has welcomed the planned upgrade of the Pacaltsdorp Primary Healthcare Facility.
Speaking on behalf of the DA in the Western Cape he said, "The DA welcomes the upgrade of the Pacaltsdorp Primary Healthcare Facility (PHC). The project forms part of the Capital Infrastructure Component of the district's NHI Programme."
In response to his parliamentary question, Western Cape Minister of Health Dr Nomafrench Mbombo stated that her department anticipates construction of the Pacaltsdorp Primary Healthcare Facility between November 2018 and October 2019.
Experts have been appointed by the National Department of Health to draw up a revised site plan for an expanded facility. They are working in close consultation and collaboration with the George sub-district management, the Eden District management and the provincial health infrastructure staff.
This facility will offer services to over 16 000 people who currently reside in the area, helping to combat preventable diseases.
Furthermore, the trauma and costs associated with hospital care can be avoided, which will help doctors focus on more serious emergency complaints in George and surrounding areas.
In the bigger picture, if the occurrence of preventable disease is reduced by primary health care, billions of rand will be available to treat other diseases and, in the light of our changing demography and shifting complex health burden, to conduct clinical and discovery research to find new cures.
