GEORGE NEWS - The sound of pages turning joined the cheerful chatter of neighbours as the Kingswood residents gathered on Monday afternoon, 23 June, to celebrate the launch of the estate's very first Little Library.
The initiative was the brainchild of Su Carter, a passionate Kingswood homeowner with a vision to spark a community reading culture.
Carter will personally manage the library, ensuring it stays stocked with a wide variety of books for all ages.
With close to 2 000 residents living in Kingswood, Carter hopes to encourage more book swopping and story-sharing across the estate.
"It's about making reading accessible, enjoyable and part of everyday life," she said.
Little libraries are small, free-standing book-sharing boxes based on a 'take a book, leave a book' policy. The global movement encourages reading, connection and generosity.
Residents are invited to make use of the library at any time: borrow a book, return it, or donate one to keep the collection thriving.
Carter hopes this is just the beginning, with more libraries to materialise across the estate. If you would like to donate books, you are welcome to send an email to info@kingswood.co.za.
