GEORGE NEWS - Two firearms and 40 litres of presumably stolen fuel was confiscated in separate incidents from suspects in Zone 7, Thembalethu this weekend.
On Saturday 15 August, Thembalethu police reacted on a tip-off from the community which lead them to a dwelling in Zone 7 where they found a 9mm pistol, ammunition and a Taurus 38-Special revolver.
Two laptops, believed to have been stolen during a burglary in George in 2017, were also confiscated.
On Friday night, 14 August, Thembalethu police officers arrested a 38-year-old suspect after they reacted on a tip-off by members of the community and found two 20 litre containers of presumably stolen diesel in a Toyota Corolla. They also found a scanning device.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, sgt Chris Spies, the suspect was arrested on suspicion of the possession of stolen property and on charges relating to the Petroleum Products Act.
“Further investigation into this matter led police to a shack on the premises of the arrested suspect on Saturday 15 August where they found a 9mm pistol and two magazines with 17 rounds of ammunition. A further search resulted in the recovery of a Taurus 38-Special revolver with 12 rounds of ammunition as well as two laptops believed to be stolen during a burglary in George in 2017,” Spies said.
Another suspect (39) was arrested on suspicion of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, as well as possession of stolen property.
Both suspects are in custody and will appear in court when they have been charged.
