GEORGE NEWS - Local beauty queen Jade Joy Swartz (13), a Grade Eight learner of York High School, has returned to George with the crown after being named the winner of the Miss Teen Global South Africa competition.
Among her numerous prizes are actual shares in a goldmine.
The pageant took place at Sun Meropa Casino in Polokwane, and about 35 contestants from across the country competed. Jade arrived back in George on Monday at 18:00, celebrating her achievement with her family and supporters.
Jade was previously featured in George Herald as a finalist in the competition, when she stood out not only for her stage presence, but also for her commitment to community work and uplifting others (2 October 2025: “Klein model, groot hart: Miss Universe Teen SA finalis”).
Her mother, Marilyn Swartz, described the journey as remarkable. She is very proud of Jade’s involvement in charity work, including her ongoing support for cancer-related initiatives.
When the crown fits!
“She has a deep passion to help those in need. From a young age, Jade has shown a willingness to give, often putting others first,” she said.
The glitzy event in Polokwane drew participants and supporters from across South Africa. According to Marilyn, Jade formed some strong friendships along the way.
Her stunning dresses for the competition were designed by local fashion designer Andreio Fick. “We are so grateful for the man’s help. If it weren’t for him, I don’t know what I would have done.”
Asked to give a few words of encouragement for her peers, Jade said there is nothing more important in life than the pursuit of your dreams: “If you put your heart and mind into your goals, you never know how far you can go.”
