GEORGE NEWS - Make sure you diarise the 6th annual Big Walk by Binah, scheduled for 3 December at the picturesque Garden Route Botanical Garden. The event is dedicated to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for individuals with disabilities.
A culmination of National Disability Rights Awareness Month, observed from 3 November to 3 December, the walk takes place on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, also National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
The public is invited to actively demonstrate their support and acceptance for those with special needs. The walk is an opportunity to take collective action, help eliminate barriers and enhance the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.
Disability encompasses various impairments, whether physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or a combination of these.
Take in the beauty of the garden as you take part in either the 2km or 4km walk. Funds raised will again be utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training. The organisers of the campaign - from the non-profit organisation Binah, and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre - are excited about the positive response and support they receive from the Garden Route community.
Binah (understanding) creates awareness for children with special needs in order for society to better understand and accept them. The founder members of Binah themselves deal with the challenges that families with special needs children face, as they raise their own autistic sons.
More than 200 people enjoyed the 2022 Big Walk by Binah and the organisers hope that even more families will attend the walk this year and share their experiences with one another in the true spirit of community.
Please show your understanding and support by participating in this fun walk for a worthy cause.
The Big Walk will start at 16:00 on Sunday 3 December at the Garden Route Botanical Garden. Registration will start at 15:00.
Early bird registration online for R80pp. Registration at the event R100 pp.
