GEORGE NEWS - Suff Academy has launched its Dignity Project in partnership with the George Youth Café, aiming to focus on the youth not in employment, education or training (Neet) and to support community organisations like the Phambili Shelter for battered women and children.
Suff Academy reached out to Phambili on Monday 7 June by staging a programme with special speakers who gave informative and inspirational talks.
The ladies of Phambili were also spoiled with gift parcels. "Dignity Project wants to give hope to young women and men," says Monique Michaels, programme coordinator of health and wellness at Suff.
"We want to inspire them not to be shy and make it easier for them to participate in activities at Youth Cafes. Phambili was our first outreach. Also on our list are the Môreson and Bethesda child and youth care centres."
The Youth Cafes offer short courses in different fields such as arts development, skills training, technology programmes, sport development and health programmes.
The courses are free for young people aged from 16 to 35 years. Most of the courses are done online, where facilitators work through the content with them. They then have an opportunity to do a small quiz, and if they pass they receive a certificate.

Suff Academy has been recognised by both the Western Cape Department of Social Development and the national government as one of the leading youth development organisations in South Africa.
With its head office based in George, the academy has developed an international footprint over the past 10 years. Their target is Neet youth between the ages of 16 and 35. Suff Academy specialises in skills, technology and arts programmes.

Be Well George App
The academy launched the Be Well George App in May. The app was developed in partnership with the Department of Social Development and George Service Delivery Forum, which represents most of the non-government organisations that work in health and social services.
The app focuses exclusively on community-based health and social services and makes it easier to access services during the Covid-19 pandemic.
