GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Hundreds of people braved the 14-degrees cold water and got "freezin' for a reason" at Victoria Bay on Saturday 28 July.
Young and old enjoyed the festivities on the beach at the third annual dotsure.co.za Polar Bear Plunge.
Garden Route businesses challenged each other to brave the cold for a chance to win R20 000 for a charity of their choice, and locals offered their support by donating blankets to those in need.

David Roache, MD of dotsure.co.za, said the Polar Bear Plunge is a positive cause that aims to influence businesses and people constructively. Roache mentioned that, winter being the coldest season, the blankets each plunger had to donate, will surely go a long way in warming homeless people and charity animals. More than 700 blankets were collected and distributed to four charities - the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL), Garden Route SPCA, Rotary George, and Thanda Jesu.
Stiles George, who were selected by 40% of the voters as the team with the best spirit, nominated Sports Academy George as the charity to receive the R20 000.

Former 5 FM DJ Catherine Grenfell played some sizzling tunes onshore. "It was a magical day and it was such an honour to be part of it. Everyone coming together to help those less fortunate and having fun doing it. It really was such a lovely experience," said Grenfell.
Roache thanked everyone who participated. The water was chilly, but the vibe was blazing. Definitely an event to bookmark on next year's calendar.
