GEORGE NEWS - The 7th annual Big Walk by Binah will take place on 1 December in the Garden Route Botanical Garden.
The theme for National Disability Rights Awareness Month (Dram) in 2024 is "Celebrating 30 years of Democracy, creating a disability inclusive society for a better quality of life and protection of the rights of persons with disabilities".
The Big Walk coincides with National Disability Rights Awareness Month which is from 3 November to 3 December.
3 December is also the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and is also celebrated as National Disability Rights Awareness Day.
The public is encouraged to participate to show their support and acceptance of people with special needs.
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these.
The Big Walk by Binah offers an opportunity for all of us to remove these barriers and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through concrete action.
Participants can enjoy the magnificent garden while taking part in the 2km or 4km walk from 16:00.
Funds raised during this campaign will again be utilised to empower the special needs community of George by means of information and training.
The Big Walk will start at 16:00 on Sunday 1 December - at the Garden Route Botanical Garden. Registration for the event will start at 15:00.
The organisers of the campaign from the Non-Profit Organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children, Legacy Centre, are excited about the positive response and support they receive from the Garden Route community.
Binah (Understanding) creates awareness for children with special needs in order for society to better understand and accept them. The founder members of Binah themselves deal with the challenges families with special needs children face.
The organisers trust that even more families will attend the walk on 1 December and share in the true sense of community while sharing their experiences with one another.
The Big Walk will start at 16:00 on Sunday 1 December - at the Garden Route Botanical Garden. Registration for the event will start at 15:00. Show your understanding and support by participating in this fun walk for a worthy cause.
