GEORGE NEWS - The George Municipality has appointed Lee-Anne Meiring as its new Director of Community Safety and Mobility, with effect from 1 January.
Meiring will assume strategic leadership of one of the municipality’s most critical portfolios, overseeing community safety and mobility functions that are central to the protection and well-being of both residents and visitors.
Her responsibilities include fire and rescue services, disaster management, traffic services, law enforcement, public safety, public transport, and fleet management.
She holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Bachelor of Law degree, an Advanced Diploma in Education, Training and Development, and a National Diploma in Police Administration. In addition, she has completed the Municipal Minimum Competency (MMC) qualification, a statutory requirement for senior municipal managers.
A former senior officer in the police, Meiring brings more than 18 years of experience in the community safety environment, spanning middle and senior management roles, including five years at senior management level. Prior to her appointment, she served as Senior Manager: Community Safety within the George Municipality.
Welcoming the appointment, Mayor Browen Johnson said her appointment reinforces the municipality’s commitment to building a safe, well-managed and resilient community. "Her depth of experience in policing, municipal safety and leadership positions her well to lead this vital directorate,” said Johnson.
Municipal Manager Godfrey Louw said Meiring has consistently demonstrated strong institutional knowledge, professionalism and a results-driven approach. "We are confident that her leadership will further enhance service delivery, inter-agency coordination and operational effectiveness across community safety and mobility services.”
