GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers, the log leaders in the Cricket SA division 2 four-day competition, will start 2026 with two important away fixtures in this competition.
At 73.38 points, Yaseen Valli’s team are the log leaders at the half-way stage of the pool stages with three outright victories in three matches.
Eastern Storm is second at 65.62 (after four matches), followed by the Knights at 65.62 points after three matches.
The Badgers will take on the Northern Cape Heat at the Diamond Oval in Kimberley, starting today, Thursday 8 January, and a week later they will be in action against the Knights at the Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein.
Coach Lelotli Sesele is very clear on his expectations for these two fixtures and said his team would be motivated to carry forward the momentum.
The top order batting department of the Badgers has performed solidly in this competition. George van Heerden (367 runs at an average of 183.50) is the top runs scorer.
Ruan Terblanche is the third highest (334 runs at an average of 83.50).
The spin bowler revelation, Liam Alder, who is having a superb season, is the third highest wicket taker with 19 wickets at an average of 15.25.
Good news for the Badgers is that all players are fit and ready for the trip to Kimberley.
