GEORGE NEWS - The chairman of Uncedo Taxi Association in Thembalethu, Welele Mbudede, has urged motorists to be extra cautious on the road this festive season.
Speaking at his office at the Thembalethu Taxi Rank on Monday 4 December, Mbudede thanked the people of this community for their cooperation and working relationship throughout the year of 2017.
He said the community and the local taxi industry should always try to find ways of working together and this year he thanks the people for their continued support of the Uncedo taxi business.
Mbudede urged the community, particularly those who will use Uncedo taxi services to travel to their holiday destinations, to respect their drivers on the road. "We hope that people will work with our drivers and not against them and allow them to rest on the road when they feel tired.
"If the driver feels sleepy, allow him time, because we'd rather be late than never arrive."
The chairman said people have a right to tell the driver to reduce his speed if they feel he is speeding on the road.
He also encouraged the community to verify that the taxis they use are indeed registered with Uncedo, because if something should go wrong and the taxi is not registered with them, Uncedo cannot be held responsible.
"Make sure you get information from our offices before choosing a taxi; we will tell you which taxis to take and how to plan your journey.
"We would like to reduce the risk of road accidents this December and we therefore ask people to be cooperative."
The chairman wished everyone a happy festive season and urged motorists to be vigilant and drive safely.
