GEORGE NEWS AND VIDEO - Recurring sewage spills into the Wilderness Lagoon have residents here up in arms.
Whenever power supply to the sewage pump station on the edge of the lagoon is interrupted, raw sewage overflows like a small waterfall into the lagoon at Freesia Rock.
This happened for the umpteenth time from 19:00 on Sunday 18 February till 14:00 on Monday 19 February.
According to Elsabé Kuypers from Serendipity Restaurant, raw sewage was running into the lagoon like a waterfall. (See her video.)
About a month ago, the George Herald published a promise by the George Municipality that they are planning to upgrade the control systems of the pump station, but to date nothing has been done.
In a recent letter to the George Herald Kuypers wrote: "It is embarrassing that the beauty of Wilderness and the Kingfisher Trail is being spoilt by a drain on the side-walk that is overflowing.
"How do I explain this situation to foreign guests who come to the Garden Route to enjoy the beauty which we so ardently promote?"
Wilderness Lagoon is popular for recreational activities.

This spill was the seventh since 27 September last year.
