GEORGE NEWS - In an affirming and community-spirited gesture, Nelson Mandela University's Universal Accessibility and Disability Services (UADS) has launched an online gratitude wall for Covid-19 survivors.
Virus survivors are encouraged to keep on campaigning for safety, love and compassion and share messages of gratitude for those who have fought and continue fighting Covid-19.
"This wall is for all the survivors of Covid-19. As a department we sat together and came up with this concept that is really to encourage one another in this fight. It is also to say, 'You are not alone and you too can fight off this virus'," said Ross Dakin, public relations officer for UADS.
"For the Mandela University family, it is heart-warming to read comments by grateful students, one of whom summed up the ethos behind our ongoing wellness pledge: 'It makes me happy to know that I am not alone'," said Dakin. "During this trying period of social distancing, upheaval and uncertainty, we echo that sentiment: you are not alone. Together, we will safely navigate this new world, one helping hand at a time."
Dakin encouraged staff and students to go onto the wall. "We want it to reach as many people as possible. To date many staff and students have already taken part in writing their gratitude. The wall will continue to create positive memories and encourage those that think the virus cannot be beaten."
Since the launch of the wall on Tuesday 17 August, about 23 staff and students have posted on the wall and the number of positive messages continue to grow.
