GEORGE NEWS - In last week's issue George Herald reported on the rubbish dumped at the entrance to the Outeniqua Transport Museum.
Ian Merry's efforts to get Transnet and George Municipality to respond to his complaints had been in vain and he approached the newspaper.
We sent a query to Transnet and George Municipality, who both promised to take action.
The South African Post Office, that rents the space from Transnet, did not reply. On Monday, a reader phoned to report that the rubbish had been removed and complimented the George Herald for stepping in.
This goes to show that even in the uncertain times the media face today, its watchdog role is still relevant.
