GEORGE NEWS - Grade 4 to 7 learners in the George area are currently flexing their brains in the second round of the Nestlé Nespray South African Mathematics Challenge.
The challenge is a collaborative effort between Nestlé Nespray and the South African Mathematics Foundation (SAMF), aimed at empowering learners to become independent, creative and critical thinkers who will be able to interpret and critically analyse everyday situations in and out of the classroom.
According to the organisers, the dire lack of maths ability in South Africa has been preventing our country from competing globally for years.
When it comes to maths, South Africa is one of the poorest performing countries.
This is why Nestlé has partnered with SAMF to lend a helping hand in finding ways that can help improve the mathematics standard for primary school children.
As nutrition plays a key role for primary school kids and Nestlé Nespray's FortiGrow formula provides much-needed nutrients, the company felt it is only fitting to help address the problem.
Local schools taking part in the challenge are Acacia Primary, George South Primary, Hoekwil Primary, Formosa Primary, Mzoxolo Primary and Outeniqua Primary.
There will be various rounds in August and September that will culminate in a gala event in October where the top three in the country will be announced.
