GEORGE NEWS - A man, Andrew Fleming (41), who is charged with the murder of his wife, made a brief appearance in the George Magistrate's Court on Tuesday 6 June. The case was postponed until 6 July for further investigation. He opted not to apply for bail.
Fleming handed himself over to the police and was arrested on Thursday 27 April on a charge of murder after his wife, Karen (52) died due to multiple stab wounds at a guest house in Aspeling Street.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, Fleming reported the incident at the George Police Station shortly after it happened.
George police officers were dispatched to the scene at about 09:50. On arrival they found the victim with multiple stab wounds in a bedroom. She was declared dead by medical personnel on the scene, and the man was arrested.
The motive for the murder forms part of the investigation and will in all likelihood be revealed in court as the trial progresses.
The Flemings are originally from the Eastern Cape. They moved to George where Andrew was apparently the owner of a local solar panel business in George.
